An unusual and specific commission - the brief was to design and make a stand whose prime function was to mount a pair of powerful binoculars to view the racing on the Solent. When the binoculars are stored in the safe, the handmade brass mountings are hidden within the column and, with the addition of a top, it becomes a jardinière. It was a complex piece to design and make with a pleasing result. It goes without saying that the viewing height was tailored to the client.
